Hello and welcome to AnthonyMueller.com!

– A New Era of Wine Discovery–

Wine is more than just a beverage. It’s a story, a journey, and a reflection of the people and places that craft it. It connects us, fuels our curiosity, and invites us to explore the world through our senses. That’s why I created AnthonyMueller.com—a place where wine lovers, from the seasoned collector to the casually curious, can come together to learn, discover, and celebrate the wines of today and the vintages of tomorrow.

A Website for Wine Lovers, Built by a Wine Lover

For decades, I’ve immersed myself in the world of wine—tasting, reviewing, and understanding the regions, winemakers, and traditions that shape each bottle. Through my time as a professional wine critic and classically trained taster, one thing became clear: wine is meant to be shared.

AnthonyMueller.com is my way of bringing that philosophy to life. Here, you’ll find up-to-date wine reports, reviews, and insights designed to not only help you discover your next favorite bottle but also to deepen your understanding of what makes each wine special. This isn’t about numbers and tasting notes alone—it’s about the stories, the regions, and the passion behind every glass. And it won’t stop there. Food and wine are intrinsically intertwined. My love for cooking and the culinary arts is deep, and there will inherently be some food spotlights from time to time.

Where I’m Starting & Where We’re Going

As a Napa Valley local, I’ve spent years experiencing firsthand the resilience, creativity, and evolution of California’s wine country. From the sun-soaked vineyards of Napa and Sonoma to the boutique producers pushing the boundaries in the Central Coast, California will always be a major focus of my work.

But great wine isn’t limited to one region, and my love for discovery goes beyond state lines.

  • Washington State – A state that continues to impress me with its diversity, balance, and bold expressions. This is a place of true innovation, and I have a deep appreciation for its people and wines. With that said, for as long as I own, operate and run AnthonyMueller.com, I will forever be the reviewer of Washington wines. Did you hear me, Washington?!? I am not going anywhere!
  • South Africa – A country whose wines have touched my soul and severely deserve a much bigger spotlight. South African wines are dynamic, deeply rooted in history, and bursting with character. I’ve long admired the Rainbow Nation’s wine culture, and I’ll continue to explore why Americans should drink more of its remarkable wines.
  • Oregon – Home to unique regions that continue to excite and entice with its world-class Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and sparkling wines. From the Willamette Valley to the Rogue Valley, Oregon’s winemakers are pushing boundaries, crafting wines with purity, elegance, and a true sense of place. And let’s not forget the crazy delicious Rhone and Bordeaux varietals from Northeastern Oregon wine country.

And that’s just the beginning. Wine is an evolving story, and so is AnthonyMueller.com. Over time, I’ll be adding even more wine regions to our coverage:

  • Australia – Home to some of the world’s most powerful yet refined wines, from Barossa to Margaret River.
  • Spain – A country steeped in winemaking tradition, where Sherry, Rioja, and the bold reds of Priorat shine.
  • Canada – Ice wine may have put it on the map, but Canada is producing some of the most exciting cool-climate wines today.
  • Parts of Mexico – A hidden gem in the wine world, particularly in Baja California, where the wines are vibrant, expressive, and worthy of global attention.
  • Eastern Europe – From the volcanic wines of Hungary to the ancient winemaking traditions of Georgia, this region has some of the most fascinating, underappreciated wines on the planet.

A Community, Not Just a Website

This isn’t just a site for reviews—it’s a place to connect, to learn about wine in an approachable way, and to engage in conversations that make wine more exciting and less intimidating. Whether you’re a winemaker looking for honest feedback, a wine lover searching for new regions to explore, or someone who just wants to better understand the wine in their glass, AnthonyMueller.com is for you.

I believe wine should be accessible, transparent, and fun. That’s why all reviews and reports are free to read. Yes, I’ll repeat that again. All of this website is free to read. Wineries can submit wines without cost, and anyone can follow along as I explore the wine world. The only charge? If a winery wants to use my reviews and scores in their marketing, there’s a small fee. Otherwise, this site is here for you—to learn, enjoy, and celebrate wine.

Join Me on This Journey

Wine is a never-ending adventure, and I’m excited to share this next chapter with you. Bookmark AnthonyMueller.com, follow along and let’s explore the world of wine together.

Anthony Mueller

Not Just Cab Country: Rutherford Hill’s Redefinition of Napa Wine

In a region where Cabernet Sauvignon often takes center stage, Rutherford Hill Winery is quietly leading a Merlot revival—one that’s not just about bringing a grape back into favor but about reshaping how Napa wine is experienced altogether.
But Rutherford Hill isn’t stopping with Merlot. White wine innovation is thriving here, with a standout stainless-steel fermented Vermentino and a texturally layered Sauvignon Blanc that incorporates a splash of Sauvignon Gris.
Recent renovations have amplified the experience. The newly built Skylofts and Valley Vista Terrace overlook Napa Valley in stunning fashion—higher even than the famed patio at Auberge du Soleil. Add to that a renewed focus on wine quality, and the transformation feels complete.

From France to Napa: How Winemaker Morgan Maureze is Crafting a Legacy with Ampleur Cellars

Morgan Maureze, a fifth-generation winemaker with deep roots in both Muscadet and Saint-Émilion, shares the origin and philosophy behind Ampleur Cellars, his boutique wine project in Napa Valley. After a significant family dispute led to the sale of his family estate in France, Morgan returned to California to rebuild his career, working with top wineries such as Dominus, Ovid, Marciano Estate, and Seven Apart under the mentorship of Andy Erickson. It was at Marciano Estate that he met his future business partner, Andrew Wesson, formerly of Schaefer Vineyards.
Together, they founded Ampleur Cellars with a shared vision of “affordable luxury”—producing site-specific, small-production wines that reflect elegance, restraint, and authenticity without billionaire backing. Drawing on Morgan’s education and thesis work with DRC in Burgundy, the wines emphasize subtlety over showmanship, modest oak use, and the purity of fruit. The name “Ampleur,” a French term referring to magnitude and texture in wine, was chosen to honor Morgan’s heritage; securing the trademark involved acquiring the rights to “Magnitude” to protect the brand. Still, Ampleur remains focused on growing organically and responsibly, crafting wines that reflect both legacy and integrity.

Premiere Napa Valley 2025

Every vintage tells a story shaped by the elements, the land, and the hands that craft it. In Napa Valley, 2023 was a very good year—steady, generous, and free from extreme weather events. Unlike some of the scorching heatwaves of recent years, the growing season was even-paced, giving winemakers ample time to harvest at their leisure. And with little to no major challenges, it’s no surprise that just about everyone made high-quality and abundant wines in 2023.

But was it the “Vintage of the Century?”

What’s in a Name?

When I decided to set out on my own, I knew I wanted to build something from the ground up—something that reflected my passion, my journey, and my commitment to authenticity. Choosing to put my name on the website wasn’t about vanity; it was about transparency. By putting my name on it, I wanted people to know that what they see is the real me—no pretense, no compromises, and no shortcuts. It’s a promise of honesty and integrity, a commitment to authenticity in everything I do.

From the start, I envisioned a bold and dynamic logo inspired by the black and red color schemes of some of my favorite rock bands. But as I refined my vision, I realized the logo needed to do more than look sharp—it needed to represent who I am and convey my passion for wine to anyone, even at first glance. I’ve always believed that the best way to start your wine education is to get a good wine key and start pulling corks, discovering the stories hidden inside each bottle. So, changing the “T” in my name to reflect a wine opener felt like the perfect blend of simplicity and elegance—a small detail that signifies a deeper meaning to me.

As I looked over the finished logo, it reminded me of a special wine key in my small arsenal of wine-opening devices, a piece that holds great sentimental value to me. At that moment, I knew I had to rethink my color scheme. Instead of the original red and black, I chose “International Orange and Black,” a nod to the iconic hue of the Golden Gate Bridge. Let me explain why…
